Julius J. Wedman, Jr., 76, of Jamestown, ND, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at his home in Jamestown.
Julius J. Wedman, Jr. was born June 11, 1931, in Jamestown, the son of Julius J. and Violet M. (Johnson) Wedman. He grew up in Jamestown and attended Jamestown Schools, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1949. Julius attended Jamestown College.
He was called to active duty with the North Dakota National Guard during the Korean War. Julius served in Korea with Company C 378th Engineer Combat Battalion. He spent one year and four days in a military hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana following an injury. Following his honorable discharge, he went to Molan Barber College and barbered in Jamestown for 12 years. Julius married Nancy Carter on December 25, 1961. He joined the Jamestown Police Dept. in 1966. In 1978, he was appointed Civil Defense Director and Veterans Service Officer for Stutsman County, retiring on June 20, 1996.
Julius enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap & Skeet shooting, playing the violin and singing. He was a Charter Member of the Jamestown Choralaires. Julius was a member of the American Legion and held a life membership in the VFW, DAV, Trench Rats, and was a Past Department Commander of the DAV Department of ND from 1990-1991. He was a Patron Life member of the National Rifle Association. Julius was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Julius also enjoyed traveling and photography.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Wedman, Jamestown; one son, Douglas (Lisa) Wedman, Los Alamos, NM; three daughters, Karen (Kevin) Peterson, Rochester, MN, Donna (Ken) Goss, Yorktown, VA, and Jennifer (Joel) Nett, Fargo, ND; thirteen grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon, Seattle, WA, Robert (Ruth), Red Bluff, CA, and Donald (Mary), North Glenn, CO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Ann Pioske.
Memorial Service: 2:00PM, Monday, February 18, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
A benefit to help assist with medical expenses will be he held 11:00AM - 2:00PM, Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Building Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
