Katherine Walz, 102, Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Jamestown and Pettibone, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks.
Katherine Martin was born to Jacob and Carolina (Albrecht) Martin on February 16, 1915, in Petersville Township, North of Pettibone, ND. She was baptized on April 2, 1915, at Zion Lutheran Church, Petersville, and confirmed her faith on April 13, 1930. She was united in marriage to Rudolph Walz on December 10, 1936.
They farmed in the Pettibone area until they retired and moved to Jamestown, ND and later to Grand Forks, ND. Family and church were the most important in her life. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and belonged to the LWML. She was faithful in daily devotions and prayer and a Christian example to her children. She kept a daily diary for many years. In 1977, Rudolph and Katherine went to Germany to visit their daughter, Marlys, and family. While there they met and stayed with several of their first cousins.
She is survived by her 3 children -Verna (Darold) Boettcher, Larry (Lynn), Marlys Johnson; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grand-children; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph; her parents; 13 siblings; and son-in-law, Don Johnson.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Monday, May 15, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Visitation: 3:00 – 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 14, at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
