Kathy L. Ackerman

Kathleen L. Ackerman, 75, of Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at her home in Jamestown after a long battle with cancer.

Kathleen Lois Purcell was born February 18, 1936, in Carrington, ND, the daughter of Ervan and Irene (Krapp) Purcell. She attended grade school in Deer Lake Township and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954. Kathy attended Valley City Teachers College and took classes in Colorado, NDSU, Fargo, ND and online from California and Alaska. She married Keith Ackerman in November 1957. She taught school at Wimbledon, Pingree, Montpelier, Medina, and Gackle, ND. Kathy went to teach in Okinawa, Japan and Germany and traveled throughout Europe, often as a tour guide.

Kathy enjoyed roller skating, sewing, square-dancing, calligraphy, and art. She collected many antiques and made costumes from the 1600's, wearing them during recreations of that time period. Kathy was also an avid reader.

Kathy is survived by her brother, James (Mary Ann) Purcell and sister, Diane Purcell, both of Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Service: 1:30p.m., Friday, May 13, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Tom Eckstein officiating.

Visitation: 1:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 6:00p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
