Katie Schaffer

Katie Schaffer, 87, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Jamestown Hospital with her family by her side.

Katie Schock was born November 10, 1921 in Lehr, ND, the daughter of Karl and Otillia (Zimmerman) Schock. She married Arthur Schaffer from Wishek on October 10, 1940. They farmed for five years in Wishek before buying a farm five miles west of Montpelier, ND in 1946. Katie and Art discontinued farming in 1965 and moved to Jamestown. From 1968 to 1986, Katie worked at Jamestown Hospital where she enjoyed greeting and serving all those who chose to eat at the cafeteria.

Katie was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of many friends. While circumstances did not allow her to pursue the education she would have desired, throughout her life, Katie encouraged her children and grandchildren to value an education. Katie and Art enjoyed camping and traveling to visit their children.

Katie is survived by her four children, Gary (Linda) Schaffer, Lindenhurst, NY, Judith (Melfried) Olson, Honolulu, HI, Janice (Timothy) Schmidt, Huntsville, AL and John (Theresa) Schaffer, Brush, CO; ten grandchildren, Timothy Schaffer, Andrea (Schmidt) Miille, Gregory Schaffer, Tanya (Olson) Yerich, Brian Schmidt, Jared Schaffer, Travis Olson, Jessica Schaffer, Jeremy Schaffer and Erin Schaffer; six great-grandchildren, Zachary and Emily Schaffer, Nathan Morgan, Jack & Sidney Schaffer and Marion Judith Olson; and three sisters, Ella Albrecht and Darlene Gladys Rott, West Fargo, ND and Emma Ulmer, Wishek, ND.

Katie and Art were married for 66 years before Art passed away in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold; sister, Darlene and a granddaughter, Michelle Schaffer.

Funeral Service: 11:30 AM, Monday, January 19, 2009 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Gary Ball-Kilbourne officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND

Prayer Service: 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Spring Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
