Kenneth Bockwoldt, 91, of LaMoure, passed away on Jan. 17, 2018, in LaMoure. Services will take place at a later date. Kenneth Bockwoldt was born April 4, 1926 to Ernest and Elsie (Klatt) Bockwoldt at Round Lake, MN. At the age of two, he moved with his family to the LaMoure, ND area. Kenneth attended school in Grand Rapids, ND, and grew to his adulthood working with his parents on the farm. In adulthood, Kenneth was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War where he earned the Korean War medal with Bronze Star. Following his military service, Kenneth married Dorothy Anderson on Nov. 21, 1953. Shortly after, they relocated to Lead, SD where Kenneth worked at Homestake Gold Mine for 39 years, retiring in 1993. In addition to mining, Kenneth spent many years as the caretaker of the South Lead and Mountain View cemeteries in Lead with a mission to ensure that they were carefully manicured. Kenneth was a hard worker and worked two jobs to provide for his family. Kenneth was a member of the Lead United Methodist Church. In retirement he lived in both his home state of North Dakota and his adopted home of South Dakota. Kenneth moved to the St. Rose Care Facility in January 2017. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; two brothers, Emil and Ernest; and two sisters, Mabel Barsten and Betty Andrud. Kenneth is survived by his children: Mike Bockwoldt, of Nashville, TN., Mark (Denise) Bockwoldt, of Frankfort, IL., Beth (Mike Kliche) Bockwoldt, of Nisland, SD and Stanton (Gail) Bockwoldt, of Shullsburg, WI.; grandchildren: Zach Sallee, Mackenzie Bockwoldt, Mike Bockwoldt, and Matthew Bockwoldt; a great-granddaughter, Nola Sallee; and three sisters: Hilda Muske, of LaMoure, Dolly Juelke, of Fargo, and Alice (Jack) Reuther, of Jamestown Kenneth’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the St. Rose Care Center.
Interment: Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.
