Kenneth Bredeson

Kenneth Ardell Bredeson, 81, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the North Dakota Veteran's Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Kenneth was born April 19, 1922 in Maddock, North Dakota the son of William Maurice and Emma (Hagen) Bredeson. He lived in Maddock and Hambers, ND until age seven when the family moved to Wellsburg, ND where he attended school. He was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. He later worked in the area as a farm laborer. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army from November 24, 1942 to December 13, 1945. He served in the 94th Infantry Division in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged from Camp McCoy, WI as a Technician 5th Grade. He became a carpenter and specialized in finish work. On April 27, 1957 Kenneth married Marjorie Laura Stoppleworth. She passed away August 17, 1961. He married Esther Iva Stoppleworth on October 15, 1966 and they made their home in Jamestown. Esther passed away May 1, 2001. From 1973 to 1975 they lived in Rock Springs, WY, then in 1975 they moved to Washburn, ND where he was employed by Kaiser Construction Co. in Beulah, ND. They returned to Jamestown in 1987. He worked for the Jamestown Public School system until his retirement.

Kenneth was a member of the American Legion 205 of Woodworth, VFW #760, Jamestown, and the American Lutheran Church, Washburn. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and especially his children and grandchildren. Kenneth was very devoted to his family. He was a quiet man, generous and always ready to help others.

He is survived by one son, Lee (Doris) Bredeson, Oakes, ND, two sisters, Evelyn (Elmer) Harr, Montesano, WA and Irene (Lester) Thompson, Jamestown, 6 step-children, Kenneth (Dorothy) Stoppleworth, Belfield, ND; Tom (Alice) Stoppleworth, Belfield, ND; Mark Stoppleworth, Burlington, WA; Rev. Thelma Hembroff, Cedar Rapids, IA; Lois (Bob) Sam, Minot, ND; Evelyn (Wilfred) Mehlhoff, Redding, CA, two grandsons, Lane and Jacob Bredeson, 11 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, parents, one son, Donald Bredeson, two sisters, Loretta Clark and Virginia Yule, two brothers, Floyd and Elroy Bredeson.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the American Lutheran Church, Woodworth, North Dakota with Rev. Thelma Hembroff officiating.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Visitation: 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, North Dakota.
