Kenneth Oxtra, 78, of Jamestown, ND died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Medcenter One Health Systems, Bismarck, ND.
Kenneth Theodore Oxtra was born on March 16, 1927 to Samuel & Martha (Alveshere) Oxtra in Manfred, ND. He attended school through the eighth grade, and in 1969 earned a GED in Harvey, ND. Ken was drafted into the Army Air Force on June 19, 1945. He repaired and maintained B-17's while serving in Africa and parts of Europe during WWII. Ken was discharged on November 22, 1946. Following military service he studied auto mechanics in Chicago, IL and went to work for Wesley Motors in Minot, ND. Upon moving to Harvey, ND he farmed and worked for Dahl Miller Ford. On August 15, 1957 he married Katherine Rudolph. Ken later worked for Keller Implement, and then LC Loerch. In 1970 he began working for the Ottertail Power Co. as a Fleet Service Foreman, relocating to Jamestown, ND. Ken retired in 1992. He enjoyed storytelling, hauling cars for Stoudt's, restoring vintage cars, and being an awesome grandpa.
Ken is survived by his wife of 48 years, Katherine of Jamestown; son, Ted (Sherry) Oxtra of Gillette, WY; three daughters, Diane (Gary) Eggen of Fergus Falls, MN, Terri (Rick) Qual of Jamestown, ND, and Kari (Dennis) Wetzel of Bismarck, ND; nephew, David Oxtra; six grandchildren, Adrian (Joe) Velasco, Taera Oxtra, Tawnee Oxtra, Karena (Matt) Goehner, Levi Williams, and Tyson Williams; and seven step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Stanley Oxtra, Merwood Oxtra, and Noel Oxtra; and a nephew, Duane Oxtra.
Funeral Service: 3:30PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.
Visitation: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 from 9:00AM to 8:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Prayer Service: 8:30PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: 10:30AM, Friday, July 22, 2005 at Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
