Kent Horton

Kent H. Horton, 98, Jamestown, North Dakota passed away on May 29, 2019, joining the family members gone before him and whom he sorely missed these last months.

Kent was born in Jamestown on November 14, 1920 to Gilbert Robinson Horton and Evangelyn Roberts Horton. He attended Jamestown schools (Class of 1938) and the University of North Dakota, graduating as an Engineer in 1942.

Kent began his engineering career with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) at Langley Field in Virginia, where he was introduced to Ruth Webb. Kent and Ruth were married October 22, 1944 at Hampton, VA. They lived at Hampton and Yorktown, VA until moving back to Jamestown in 1955.

Kent joined his father Gil (Gilbert R.) and his brother Bert (Gilbert E.) as a Consulting Engineer in G.R. Horton Architects, and taught part-time at Jamestown College. He was an avid photographer and longtime Kiwanis member. He and Ruth were active members of Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown.

Kent is survived by his children; Marilyn H. Barrios, Las Vegas, NM and Bruce (Daphne) Horton, Jamestown, and granddaughters; Kate (Michael Wood) Horton, Little Elm, TX, and Carrera (Jonathan) Tirello, Spokane, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Bert and sister-in-law Eunice; Bert’s first wife Donna Mae Horton, nee Chase; and beloved wife Ruth, whom he cared for at home until she passed away in 2010.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, June 14, 2019 at Grace Episcopal Church, 405 2nd Ave NE, Jamestown, ND, with the Rev. Bart David officiating. No visitation is planned. Memorials may be directed to Grace Church.
