Laverne C. Rolle

LaVerne Rolle, 94, Jamestown, N.D., formerly Glen Ullin, N.D., died Thursday, November 28, 2002 at the Jamestown Hospital.

LaVerne Clara Sharff was born February 27, 1908, at her family's homestead in Morton County near Almont, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Mary Ann (Carter) Sharff. She attended rural school, then the Glen Ullin, N.D., Public School, beginning in 1917 when her family moved to Glen Ullin. She attended Dickinson, N.D., State University where she earned her Elementary Teaching Certificate after which she taught in rural Morton County schools until her marriage. She married John Rolle on July 5, 1930, in Belle Fouche, SD. He died in 1974. Following her marriage she assisted in the operation of Glen Ullin Drug, owned and operated by her husband. She was active in several organizations including the Women's Fellowship of the UCC Congregational Church, Glen Ullin, of which she was a member. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years and was an accomplished craftswoman, seamstress and amateur artist. She moved to Jamestown in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Norma (Robert) Richardson, Jamestown, N.D.; three grandsons, Mark (Lanie), Vermilion, OH; Grant (Michelle), Fargo, N.D.; and Dean (Holly Harstad), Jamestown, N.D.; one grand-daughter, Rae (Jeffrey) Holte, Pelican Rapids, MN; 16 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-great grandchildren and special family, Marge, Jim and Katie Michael.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, Blanche, one brother, Lee, and a great-granddaughter, Rebekah.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. - Monday, December 2, 2002 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, N.D. with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. - Sunday at the Eddy Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.

Committal Service & Burial: 2:30 P.M. (MST) at Glen Ullin Cemetery, Glen Ullin, N.D.
