Lawrence Jacob Hochhalter, 74, Woodworth, N.D., died Thursday, November 14, 2002, at the home of Kerry and Sherri Hochhalter, Jamestown, N.D., after a six-year battle with cancer.
Lawrence was born March 6, 1928, in Woodworth, N.D., the son of Fredrick and Emma (Moser) Hochhalter. He grew up and attended school in Woodworth. On October 29, 1950, he married Laura Jean Koenig at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Woodworth. Shortly after in January 1951 he enlisted in the United States Armed forces and served in the Korean War and was honorary discharged in November 1956. Lawrence and Jean farmed outside of Woodworth, where they raised cattle, performed custom combining and ground feed for area residents since 1954. He served on the board of directors for Wadsworth Township ? Stutsman County, Woodworth Farmers Grain Company and was a member of the American Legion Post #0205. Lawrence greatly enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, playing pinochle and custom combining.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Laura Jean, a daughter, Beatrice (Kent) Barker, Anchorage, AK, sons Terry (Bonnie), Leon (Sonya), Kerry (Sherri), Jamestown and Donald (Andrea), Fargo and eight grandchildren, Wesley Barker, Brooke Hochhalter, Justin and Eric Hochhalter, Blake and Brock Hochhalter, Emma and Aliza Hochhalter. His sisters, Inez Lund, Carrington, ND, Lilly Peda, Kent, WA, Alice Ulrickson, Jamestown, ND and brother Harry Hochhalter, Medina, ND.
His brother Leroy, sister Gertrud Slotto, parents Fred and Emma preceded him in death.
Services: 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2002, Redeemer Lutheran Church,
Woodworth, N.D. Pastor?s Mark Schlamann and Robert Leiste.
Prayer service: 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Home,
Jamestown.
Visitation: Sunday, November 17, 2002 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestwon, N.D.
Burial: Gem Cemetery, Woodworth.
