Leah Corning

Leah Corning, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, March 8, 2004 at her home in Jamestown.

Leah Radspinner was born February 26, 1924 in Madison, South Dakota, the daughter of Frank and Zella (Barrickman) Radspinner. She grew up and graduated from high school in Madison, then moved to Sioux Falls, SD. With the advent of the World War II, she worked in California, later moving back to Sioux Falls.

On March 27, 1948 she married Leon Corning in Sioux Falls. They moved to Jamestown, in 1964, where her husband was Superintendent of the North Dakota Fish Hatchery at Spiritwood Lake. They built a home there and lived there until 1995, when she moved to Jamestown. She worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service for 28 years, retiring in 1984.

In 1969-70 she held the office of State President of N.D. Business and Professional Womens Organization. While living at Spiritwood Lake she served on the City Council and Sec/Treas. of the Lake Association. She served on the Stutsman County Park Board and was on the Building Committee and Board for the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center.

As a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church she served on the Vestry and over twenty years as the Treasurer. She also served at the Diocesan, Provincal, and National level of the Episcopal Church. She was Assistant Treasurer of the North Dakota Episcopal Diocese, and served on the Finance Committee and the Diocesan Council. She also served on the Camp Rokiwan Board.

Her husband was on dialysis for six years and she helped to secure the Dialysis Unit at the Jamestown Hospital in 1992. In 1996 she had quadruple by-pass surgery and attended Cardiac Rehab.

She enjoyed traveling and enjoyed being home most of the time. She enjoyed gardening and did a little canning of pickles. She also enjoyed entertaining especially during the holidays.

Leah is survived by four sisters, Doris (Clarence) Rongley, Madison, SD; Wanda (Charles) Bork, Wenatchee, WA; Frances Gregg, Warsaw, MO and Norma Jean (Blaine) Johnson, Mesa, AZ, one brother, Warren Radspinner of Madison, SD and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Vera Fletcher and Naomi Klinghagen.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown.

No visitation is scheduled.
