Lee ‘Grampa' Bernhardt, 83, Edgeley, ND, died Monday, March 12, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Lee Valentine Bernhardt was born February 20, 1924 on the family farm near Linton, ND, the son of William and Rose (Kuntz) Bernhardt. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Marie District Rural School. Following his education, he worked on the farm. He served in the United States Army during World War II, returning to Linton following his discharge. On June 8, 1948, he married Albina "Ellie" Feist at St. Michael's Catholic Church near Linton, ND. They settled in Emmons County where they farmed until 1953, when they moved to a farm near Edgeley, ND. When they retired from farming in 1984, they moved into Edgeley where he owned and operated Grampa's Place. Ellie died in 1999. Lee retired and sold Grampa's Place in 2003. For the past year, he has been a resident at Manor St. Joseph, Edgeley, ND.
Survivors include 3 children: Donald Bernhardt, Edgeley, ND; Gary Bernhardt, Edgeley, ND; Peggy (Dick) Walvatne, Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Sebastian (Maggie) Bernhardt, Linton, ND; Tony (Sally) Bernhardt, Linton, ND; George (Arlys) Bernhardt, Bismarck, ND; Willie (Veronica) Bernhardt, Portland, OR; 5 sisters: Regina Bernhardt, Bismarck, ND; Frances (Eusebius) Kuntz, Bismarck, ND; Alvina (Joe) Schaff, Bismarck, ND; Phyllis (August) Werner, Bismarck, ND and Rosemarie (Leonard) Sperle, Bismarck, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Jackie and a sister, Helen.
Funeral - 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at Transfiguration Catholic Chruch, Edgeley, ND.
Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND
Visitation - 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007 and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Interment - Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley, ND
