Leland Dahlstrom

October 16, 1922 — March 5, 2007

Leland W. Dahlstrom, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota, was born October 16, 1922 and left this earthly life on March 5, 2007.

He was the first born to Walter and Verla (Bellows) Dahlstrom on the family farm near Pettibone, ND. Leland graduated from Pettibone High School. In 1942 he married Alvina Fagering, his high school sweetheart. They later divorced, but remained close friends. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served until 1946. As a young man, he loved adventure. During the summer of his 13th year, he hitchhiked and road a train to Montana to fight forest fires. He later worked in a logging camp, in a mine, ranched in Montana, flew aerobatic planes, loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel, and no one ever loved man?s best friend more than Leland loved his Pugs. He told farfetched-sounding stories with the best of men...but all of his stories were true. Leland loved his garden, was an excellent cook, and delighted in sharing his bounty with others. He will be remembered for many things, but most of all as a master carpenter. He built homes made to last, gorgeous cabinetry, along with such things as the conference table at

High Acres Manor, the baptismal font at the United Methodist Church, and the display for the books and memorabilia of Louis L Amour in the Raugust Library at Jamestown College. Coming from a musical family, he played the guitar, accordion and harmonica, he also sang and whistled beautifully. Wonderful memories were made with his mother playing the piano, his brother playing the accordion, Leland playing the guitar, and everyone singing. He cherished nature. He believed all animals should live free and that wild flowers were the best. Each morning found him in the park visiting the wildlife and talking with God.

Leland is survived by his daughter, Carol (David) Christ, Sun City, AZ; his granddaughter, Sarah (Peto) Chavez, Surprise, AZ; three great-grandchildren, Peter, Augustine and Mariah Chavez, Surprise, AZ; two nieces, one nephew, four cousins, including his special cousin, Dorothy Widener, Jamestown; sisters-in-law Mary Bullis Hoyt, Jamestown and Leone (Glen) Stenberg, Bismarck and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill, and sister-in-law, Billye Dahlstrom.
