Leona Thorman

Leona Sylvia Thorman, 86, of Moorhead, Minnesota, died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia, Minnesota.

Leona Bietz was born October 14, 1924 in Cleveland, North Dakota, the daughter of Rubin and Esther (Haas) Bietz. Leona grew up in the Cleveland area and attended the Cleveland High school, graduating in 1942. She graduated from the Jamestown Business College.

She enjoyed her black labs Susie I, II, and III. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining, and playing the popular game of Shanghai with family and friends. She took great pleasure in playing the piano and organ.

She will be remembered for her sweet spirit, helpful attitude, and loving words.

She married Joseph Henry Thorman at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamestown, North Dakota on November 18, 1946. They had one son, Joseph Jr., born on July 8, 1947. Leona worked at the University of Minnesota for 3 years, the Coca Cola Bottling Company for 30 years, and then the Powers Construction company for 28 years.

Leona is survived by her husband, Joseph, who resides in Moorhead, Minnesota; her son, Joseph A., Jr., Rolla, ND; six grandchildren, Josie Bendickson, Joe Thorman, JoLene (Chris) Schlegel, Jessica (Shaun) McGruder, Janessa Morrow, Jeana (Jamie) Norrington, Erin (Kim) Thorman; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Darwin (Anita) Bietz; and two sisters, Sharon (Dennis) Schmierer and Donna (Warren) Rittenbach.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Velma McCurdy; and two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Haas and Verle McCurdy.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Darren Purdy officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:45 PM, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:45 PM, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
