Leona M. Trautmann

August 19, 1920 — December 15, 2003

Leona M. Trautmann, 83, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, December 15, 2003 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown. Leona Axtell was born August 19, 1920 near Medina, North Dakota the daughter of Lloyd and Lyla (Larson) Axtell. Leona attended school in Medina and graduated from Medina High School. She attended Valley City State Teachers College and earned her teacher's certificate there. On June 3, 1943 Leona married Reinhold J. Trautmann near Medina. Leona taught school for 3 1/2 years while she waited for Reinhold to return from serving in the Air Force during WWII. They made their home in Medina where they raised their five children. Leona enjoyed bingo, playing cards, gardening and flowers, crossword puzzles, reading, crotcheting and visiting with her grandson, Keith.

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Medina,the Medina Senior Citizens, Legion Auxiliary, Birthday Club and a 50 plus year member of the Homemaker Club.

Leona is survived by her five children, DeLayne (Robert) Brown, Bismarck, ND; Genevieve Trautmann, Bismarck, ND; Charles (Jane) Trautmann, Phoenix, AZ; David Trautmann, Fargo, ND and Pam Neukircher (Daryl Halvorson), Jamestown, three grandchildren, a brother, Harold Axtell of Sheridan, WY and two sisters, Marion (Stan) Mathern, Salem, OR and Maxine (Eldred) Ames of Minot, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Reinhold.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Zion United Church of Christ, Medina, North Dakota with Rev. Karl Limvere officiating.

Visitiation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota.
