Leonard Dodgson

Leonard S. Dodgson, 85, Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Leonard was born June 16, 1926 in Bartlett, ND, the son of William and Mary (Kratochvil) Dodgson. He attended school in Crary, ND and graduated from Crary High School. He entered the US Navy on August 6, 1943 in Devils Lake, ND. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945 and returned to North Dakota. On November 10, 1946 Leonard married Donelda "Doni" Aurland in Devils Lake. Leonard managed Midwest Appliance in Cando. They moved to Devils Lake and from 1950-1956 he was co-owner of Power Sales Appliance. They moved to Jamestown in 1956 and Leonard started Dodgson Appliance. He later bought out Colville Furniture and renamed it Dodgson Appliance & Furniture. Leonard continued as owner/operator until his retirement in 1992.

Leonard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Elks, Eagles, VFW, Jamestown Country Club, Masons, Shriners & Jesters, Kiwanis, Board of Retailers and served for 11 years on the Jamestown School Board. He was a proud sponsor of 33 children for the Shriners Hospital and he considered this one of his greatest accomplishments.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Donelda Dodgson, Jamestown; two daughters, Sandra (Don) Off, Fergus Falls, MN and Linda (Ralph) Hallquist, Boise, ID; two sons, Scott (Barbara) Dodgson, Hawley, MN and Steve (P.J.) Dodgson, Brentwood, CA; 11 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell; two sisters, one brother; two half sisters and three half brothers.
