Leonard Norheim, 84, of Kensal, ND went to his heavenly home on August 8, 2009.
Leonard was born March 31, 1925 in rural Kensal, the son of Halvor and Alice (Packard) Norheim. Leonard was in the US Navy and traveled to Antarctica aboard the USS Canisteo in support of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition from 1946-1947 (Operation High Jump). Leonard married Edna Rosenau in Eldridge, ND on June 10, 1949. They moved to the family homestead near Kensal in 1951 where they made their home and farmed. He received an award from the Foster County Soil Conservation District in 1965. He was also active with various church boards at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was on the North Dakota Farmers Union board of directors in Carrington for many years. He served on the Kensal School Board for many years.
Leonard and Edna celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.
Leonard enjoyed his Naval reunions, farming and mechanical work.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Edna Norheim, Jamestown; three sons, Larry (Marsha) Norheim, Bismarck, ND, and Kim (Linda) Norheim, Lebanon, OH, Jason (Denise) Norheim, Alexandria, MN,; one son-in-law, Arnie Donat, Bismarck, ND; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Blanche) Norheim, Burnsville, MN; one sister, Phyllis Colson, Oceanside, CA; one sister-in-law, Carol Carlson, Oceanside, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sandy; and one brother, Kenneth.
