Leonard Wanzek

Leonard Wanzek, 79, Courtenay, ND died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Ave Marie Village, Jamestown, ND.
Leonard F. Wanzek was born on the Wanzek family farm near Windsor, ND on October 4, 1928 the son of Paul and Veronica (Prodzinski) Wanzek. He graduated from St. John's Academy, Jamestown, ND in 1947 and then worked as an auto mechanic and also for Goodman Electric Co. of Jamestown. He married Dolores Siebert on June 12, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Courtenay, ND. They moved to a farm near Courtenay in 1953 and farmed with his father-in-law, Albert Siebert. He had also managed the movie theatre and drove school bus in Courtenay, ND. Leonard retired in 2006.
Survivors include his wife; 5 sons, Chuck (Amy), West Fargo, ND, Bernie (Shelly), Courtenay, ND, Bill (Lori), Wimbledon, ND, John (Michele), Jamestown and Fred (Janice McCarty), Wimbledon; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; 10 sisters, Therese (Bob) Solinger, Nortonville, ND, Joan (Gene) Cysewski, Courtenay, ND, Cele (Harvey) Newton, Jamestown, Deloris (Don) Norris, Lacey, WA, Louise Wanzek, Minneapolis, MN, Judy (Ken) Baenen, Lead, SD; Genevieve (Keith) Berg, Fargo, Joyce Gutensohn, Grand Forks, ND, Cathy (Gary) Carlson, Cleveland, ND, and Connie (Karl) Charipar, Minneapolis, MN and 3 brothers, David, and Tony (Sandy) Wanzek, both Jamestown, ND, and Gene (Beth), Cleveland, ND, He was preceded in death by a daughter Jody, his parents, 1 grandson Nathan, and two brothers, Raphael and Kenny.
Leonard was an active member of the community, serving as a township supervisor and assessor, treasurer of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Courtenay, as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Courtenay Elevator Board. He also served as a supervisor of the Soil Conservation District and on the Courtenay School board. He was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.
Prayer Service: 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND. Visitation: From noon until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown and for 1 hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
