Leroy Wiest

August 10, 1936 — May 8, 2008

LeRoy Wiest, 71, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

LeRoy was born August 10, 1936 in the home of his parents, Edward and Amelia (Hust) Wiest at rural Cleveland, ND. He attended rural schools in the Medina and Cleveland area. LeRoy moved with his family to Jamestown in 1954. He married Laurie Baker on February 15, 1956.

LeRoy led a full life, built on hard work and family enjoyment. He was employed at West End Hide and Fur Co. for a total of 23 years. He was a partner in a construction company, worked as a plumber and repaired small engines. He enjoyed building and fixing up houses, having had much experience as a carpenter. Some of his favorite pastimes were spent camping and riding motorcycle on weekend outings with his family and friends. He also loved polka music and dancing. Buying used cars and fine tuning and detailing them with his own personal touches was an ongoing passion for him.

He would take his young son, Darrell, on many after hour construction projects. He passed on his carpentry skills to his sons, Jim and Curt.

On many Saturday nights you could find him at the stock car race track, where he truly enjoyed watching his sons, Jim and Curt, racing.

In LeRoy's later years, he enjoyed trips to West End Hide and Fur to tinker on lawn mowers and other small engines. He also loved working in his new garage and his yard. He was disappointed when his abilities diminished so he could no longer do things according to his liking.

LeRoy truly believed in God and the saving faith of the Gospel of Christ. He will always be loved and remembered by his family and friends.

The last 23 years of LeRoy's life were fulfilled with the love of Marlene Morehouse and her family.

LeRoy is survived by Marlene; his two sons, James (Roxanne) Wiest and Curtis (Jo Marie) Wiest, both of Jamestown; one daughter, Leanne (Gary) Schlagel, Valley City, ND; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Wiest, Jamestown; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace and Elroy (Marlys) Wiest, both of Jamestown; two sisters, Doris Hill, Hanford, CA and Demaris Buck, Riverdale, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
