Lila Erickson

Lila Erickson, 91, passed away May 10, 2017, at Jamestown, ND. She was born on March 6, 1926, to William and Mathilda Seibold near Sykeston, North Dakota. Lila graduated from Valley City State Teacher’s College and taught in country schools before her marriage to Charles Erickson on June 23, 1948. Charles and Lila farmed near Cleveland, North Dakota until Charles’ death in 1996. They were blessed with four children, Steve (Darleen), Doug, Dwight (Cheryl), and Connie (Kent), nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Lila was an active member of the Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served as deaconess, treasurer, Sabbath School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, Pathfinder leader, and Food Committee chairman. The children especially enjoyed her teaching and cherished her warm smiles and hugs and affectionately called her Grandma Lila. She put God and family first which was evidenced in her selfless actions and great hospitality. Although she never wanted to be noticed, she was a pillar behind the scenes and was a loyal wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring daughter and sister, and a creative person who could make something fun out of something mundane. She was one who believed in you and was a great encourager, and everyone who was touched by her life was a better person for it.

Her favorite verse, 1 Peter 3:4, was clearly evidenced in her life. It says, “Be beautiful in your heart with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit which is so precious to God.” Her legacy continues in the lives she has touched with her gentleness, inner grace, and beauty.
