Lila Hennings

Lila Hennings, 97, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Sunday morning, October 1, 2023 at SMP Health - Ave Maria, Jamestown.

Lila MaLinda Wahl was born on November 25, 1925, one half mile south of Eldridge, North Dakota, daughter of Jacob and Viola Perleberg Wahl. She attended rural schools near her home and Eldridge and Jamestown High School. Due to illness in the family, she left high school after three years. She received her GED in 1973 after taking night classes. She married Harold Hennings in Eldridge Lutheran Church on February 1, 1946. They farmed for twelve years and then moved to Jamestown. She was employed with J.C. Penney Company for several years and managed the fabric department for Gamble Skogmo known and the Tempo store. She later worked at The North Dakota State Hospital until retiring in 1988.

She enjoyed reading and sewing. She was a member of Priscilla Alter Society and St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Lila is survived by her five children, Richard (Linda) Hennings, Bonnie (John) Allickson, Harold Jr. (Joanne) Hennings, Leslie (Linda) Hennings, Pamela (Daniel) Machtell; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister, Alice Wanzek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; two brothers, Vern (Harriet) Wahl and Wilbur (Lorraine) Wahl; and brother-in-law, Richard Wanzek.

Funeral Service - 10:30am, Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

Visitation – 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5, at Eddy Funeral Home.

Interment – Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
