Lillian Elizabeth Cowin Kraft, 96, a longtime resident of Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015 at Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck where she had received loving, compassionate care.
Lillian was born on July 24, 1918 in Deering, ND to Roy and Velma Cowin. She graduated from Deering High School in 1937 then attended Spring Arbor College in Michigan and Wessington Springs College in South Dakota where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room school house in Pickardville, ND before her marriage on May 16, 1942 to Ralph Kraft of Turtle Lake, ND. Ralph & Lillian had 7 children. Lillian took care of many children as well as foster care to over 20 children and 6 adults. She enjoyed many travels with her family. Lillian was a friend to everyone she met!
Lillian was a long time member of the Free Methodist church, very active in children's ministry, an active member of WCTU, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Christian Women's Club, Gideon Auxiliary, and Youth For Christ. In 2009 she was North Dakota Merit MOTHER OF THE YEAR for the American Mother's Association. Lillian loved volunteering at the school house at Frontier Village.
Surviving are her children: Carol (Don) Redlinger, Omaha, NE., Dorothy Weber, Bismarck, ND., Marilyn (Gordon) Stone, Jackson, MI., Marlyn (Pam), Auburn, WA., Lois (Dave) Osborn, Pleasant Hill, IA., Mary (Gary) Prokop, Happy Valley, OR.; daughter-in-law, Jan Kraft, Sun City, AZ.; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; her brothers, Al Cowin & Jim Cowin; and sister, Marion DeHart; brother-in-law, Jack Mulinix; sister-in-law, Dolly Cowin, all of WA. and sisters-in-law, Helen Wittrup, Betty Lu Voth, and Vivian Kraft all of ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; son, John; brother, Bob Cowin; sisters, Helen Mulinix & Mary Crawford; son-in-law, Bill Weber; and great grandson, Austin Howard. Lillian is rejoicing eternally with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ!
Memorials may be given to the Free Methodist Foundation or Frontier Village in Jamestown.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown.
Visitation: 3:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
