Inga Lillian Lee Monson, Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday April 15, 2008 at her home in the Central Dakota Village at the age of 101.
Lillian was born March 29, 1907, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Inga Lee. She was baptized on August 8, 1907, and confirmed into Christ?s love on July 16, 1922, at the James River Valley Lutheran Church, Montpelier, ND.
Lillian lived her early years in the home of her grandparents, John and Ella (Nyhus) Lee in Cumberland, WI, and in 1916, after the death of John Lee, moved with Ella, to Montpelier, ND, to live with her aunt Minnie (Carl) Lee Ronngren. She married Albert Peter Monson on December 24, 1924, and after a short stay in Minneapolis, MN, they settled in the rural Marion/Montpelier areas where they farmed and began a trucking company. Albert died in 1955. She then worked as a cook in Valley City while remaining on their farm near Marion, ND. In 1963 Lillian moved to Jamestown, ND, to reside in a home next to her son, Wayne, and was employed by Central Dakota Nursing Home as an Occupational Therapist. She retired in 1969 and began an association with the Amway Corporation, which she continued until 1995.
Lillian enjoyed gardening, gardening and more gardening, reading, writing, spending time with family, especially time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending the annual Monson Picnic held on the second Sunday of August each year in Jamestown.
In 1998 Lillian began the twilight of her years when she moved to the Golden Years Assisted Living Center, Jamestown, and later to the Roseadele Center. In 2003 she began the homeward journey of her life at Central Dakota Village where she was know as ?Grandma? to those in charge of her care.
Lillian is survived by twelve children, Lowell (Billie), Noelyn (Donna), Litchville, ND; Wayne, Marilyn (Robert) Burkhardt, Neldae Frank, Arlyce (Leonard) Chadwick, Rod (Barb), Jamestown, ND; Ed (Jean), Lakefield, MN; Dale (Virginia), Mandan, ND; Eloise Hofmann, Lorne, Fargo, ND; Julaine (Mark) Monson-Cumming, Missoula, MT; daughter-in-law, Eileen (Allen) Baeth Monson Afdahl, Sun City, AZ; 35 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a vast number of relatives and friends who loved and connected with her.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; a son, Allen; grandchildren, Ricky, Barbara-BJ, and Robin; great-grandchild, Nicole; daughter-in-law, Donna (Wayne) Bowers Monson; sons-in-law, George (Neldae) Frank and Richard (Eloise) Hofmann.
For those who knew and loved Lillian, it was certainly a blessing that she was given a long stay here on earth, but an even greater blessing that she has now moved on to a new world with her Lord.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be sent to Concordia Lutheran Church or to the Central Dakota Village, both of Jamestown.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, April 18, 2008 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Thomas Eckstein officiating.
Visitation: 12:00 to 5:00 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.
Prayer Service: 5:00 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
