Linda Hertel, 63, of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND.
Linda Anderson was born September 4, 1942 in Jamestown, the daughter of Leonard and Beatrice (Doucette) Anderson. As a young child, Linda lived with her grandmother in Buffalo, ND while her mother worked in the shipyards in Portland, OR and her father was overseas during World War II. When her father returned in 1945, they moved back to Jamestown where she attended school and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1960. For the next three years she attended Jamestown College and met her future husband. In 1964, Linda married Richard Olson in Jamestown. They moved to Texas, Michigan, Illinois and Fairdale, ND where they owned and operated the Fairdale Café. Richard passed away on February 18, 1978. Linda moved back to Jamestown in the summer of 1978. She began working parttime at Jamestown College in 1979 and later became manager of the college bookstore. Linda married Wilfred Hertel on November 14, 1983 in Jamestown. They lived on a 20-acres farmstead five miles north of Jamestown. Linda and Wilfred enjoyed traveling in their camper and spending time playing cards. He died on May 28, 2001, and two years later Linda moved into Jamestown.
Linda enjoyed watching Jimmie sports, reading, and spending time with her family, friends and pets.
Linda is survived by two sons, Jeff (Diana) Olson, Jamestown, and Jay (Kim) Olson, Katy, TX; six grandchildren, Richard, Taylor, Tiffany, Cassidy, Brianna & Caitlan Olson; one great grandchild, Brynn Olson; one brother, Eric (Amy) Anderson, Merrill, WI; a very special aunt, Annette (Ray) Wanzek, Windsor, ND; one step-son, Brad (Renee) Hertel, Casselton, ND; one step-daughter, Gloria (Walter) Cruchet, Las Vegas, NV.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Olson and Wilfred Hertel and her parents.
Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the UnitedPresbyterian Church, Jamestown with Pastor David Thompson officiating.
