Lloyd Seckerson

October 28, 1923 — November 26, 2007

Lloyd Seckerson, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota, entered his eternal home on Monday, November 26, 2007 at MedCenter One Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Lloyd Major Seckerson was born on October 28, 1923 in Cusator Township, the son of LeRoy and Julia (Johnson) Seckerson. He received his education in a one-room schoolhouse in Moon Lake Township, near Windsor, ND. In his younger years, Lloyd loved playing baseball, where he was the star short-stop.

On September 21, 1942, Lloyd left home for Mobile, AL, where he began training with the Army AirCorp. He proudly served his country in World War II as a Private 1st Class specializing as an Aircraft and Power Plant Mechanic. Lloyd was honored to serve in England, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1945 and returned home to the family farm near Windsor. With support from the GI Bill, Lloyd was able to learn how to pilot airplanes. This was one of his greatest passions. His astounding mechanical skills led him to build many planes from start to finish.

Lloyd married his sweetheart, Mary Lou Tompkins, on November 7, 1947. In 1949, they moved to a farmstead southeast of Windsor where they raised their family and made their home. He resided there until his death.

He was a farmer, cattleman, dairyman, owned his own crop spraying operation, and was an aircraft power plant mechanic with an Inspection Authorization.

Lloyd had many interests. During the 1960's, he was a major in the Civil Air Patrol and served as President of the Cleveland Rural Fire Department for many years. His love for aircraft mechanics earned him the Charles Taylor ""Master Mechanic"" Award in March of 2001. Lloyd was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown.

Lloyd will be remembered for his love of history, especially the Custer Battlefield. He enjoyed traveling, being sure to stop at every historical marker. The love for his family was endless---anytime spent together with them was always treasured.

Lloyd's wonderful sense of humor and amazing spirit will forever be remembered by his wife of sixty years, Mary Lou, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Roy (Judy), Dale (Marion) and Alan, all of Jamestown; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Arlene (Dwight) Tahran of Crookston, MN, Marlene Wiest and Dorene (David) Stroh, both of Jamestown; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, David Alan; his parents; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pearl (Harold) Kurtz and Ethel (John) Corell; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd (Beulah) Seckerson, and one son-in-law, Darrell Wiest.
