Lois A. Swanson, 89, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, September 9, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
Lois Ann Wahl was born January 24, 1922 in Eldridge, ND, the daughter of John and Lillian (Krengel) Wahl. She grew up and attended school in Eldridge, graduating from Eldridge High School in 1939. She attended Valley City Teachers College and taught in several Stutsman County Schools for three years. On October 24, 1941 Lois married Alfred Swanson in Eldridge. They moved to Jamestown where she raised their family. After their children were grown she worked as a substitute teacher at the Anne Carlsen Center for Children and as a librarian at Jamestown College for 23 years.
Lois was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in her women's circle and quilting and she taught Sunday School for many years. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, quilting, playing bridge and watching ballgames on television.
Lois is survived by one daughter, Carol (Dorwin) Marquardt, Fargo, ND; four sons, Gaylon (Karen) Swanson, Reston, VA, David Swanson, Rock Spring, WY, Neil (Mary Jo) Swanson, Cedar Rapids, IA and Jeffery (Becky) Swanson, Eagan, MN; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers, Alvin, Orlan and Dale.
