Lonnie Gayle Stone

August 1, 1955 — January 16, 2015

Lonnie Gayle (Lien) Stone, 59, passed away peacefully in her home with loved ones by her side on January 16, 2015. She was born to Allen and Thelma Lien on August 1, 1955, in Rolette, North Dakota. She grew up and lived in Jamestown most of her life. She met her husband, Jim, while attending Jamestown College, and they were married at the college's Wilson Memorial on July 4, 1994. In addition to being a tireless and immaculate homemaker, she was a gifted gardener, never wearing gloves, preferring instead the texture and smell of the earth on her hands, bringing to improbable life the scraggliest rejects in her "orphan garden." Each summer, she enjoyed long road trips with her husband throughout the West to see the sights and visit family along the way. A lifelong caregiver, she worked for several years at Don's Garden Center caring for flowers and plants, and, more recently, at Community Options caring for special needs young adults. Fiercely loyal and loving, she cared for family most of all. Even in her long and courageous battle with cancer she never complained, and was always more concerned with the effects of her condition on those she loved than on herself. She is survived by her husband, Jim Stone, Jamestown; her daughter, Emily (Stone) Pederson and grandson, Matthew Stone, Fargo, ND; her daughter, Tonya (Tim) Krueger, and grandchildren, Kya and Kael, Denver, CO; her brothers, Kenneth (Toshiko) Lien, Spokane, WA and Dale (Bonnie) Lien, Ocean Shores, WA; her sister, Linda (John) Ness, North Platte, NE; and many nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas Zimney, her father and mother, and her brother, Allen R. Lien, all of whom she has joined in heaven.

A memorial prayer service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Voorhees Chapel, University of Jamestown Campus, Jamestown, ND. In lieu of flowers, donations to the JRMC Hospice are preferred.
