Loretta Parfit, 95, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Loretta Mabel Pottratz was born December 17, 1913 in Altona township, Pipestone County, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Kagemann) Pottratz. She moved to Watertown, South Dakota at an early age. In August of 1916 the family moved to North Dakota and lived in the Nortonville area. Loretta attended school at Kennison District #2 country school until the seventh grade when the family moved to the Millarton, ND area. She graduated from Millarton High School in 1931. Loretta was confirmed at the age of 14 by W.W.A. Keller in the Eldridge Lutheran Church on July 28, 1928. Loretta married Harry Parfit at St. John's Lutheran Church parsonage on December 9, 1993 with W.W.A. Keller officiating. They lived and farmed in the Millarton area. On April 18, 1942 Loretta and Harry moved to Ypsilanti, ND area where they bought their farm and lived until 1981 when they retired and moved into Jamestown. Harry died July 30, 1999.
Loretta was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, the Ladies Aid and the St. John's Quilters. She was also a founding member of the Good Neighbors Club in Ypsilanti. She enjoyed crafts and visiting in the nursing home.
Loretta is survived by daughter, Marlyn Domek, Ypsilanti, ND; three sons, Gary (Janice) Parfit, Star, ID, Kenneth (Carolyne) Parfit, Larkspur, CO and Ronald Parfit, Bowman, ND; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Myrtle Gatz Henderson, Jamestown, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Opal Whitney, Lois Wiest and Grace Daugs; and son-in-law, Elmer Domek.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Suzi Orlopp officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jamestown Hospital Hospice or a charity of your choice.
