Lorraine Theresa Smith, 86, of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
Lorraine Theresa Butkowski was born November 5, 1924, at St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Lang) Butkowski. She attended Apollo High School, graduating in 1942. Following graduation, she moved to Minneapolis, MN to work until returning to St. Cloud to live with her mother. Lorraine married Clarence "Slim" Smith at Sauk Centre, MN on December 2, 1947. They moved to Jamestown in 1950. She worked for various retail stores in Jamestown, including J.C. Penney's, Sears, Sullivan's Floral Shop, and Woolworth's. In October of 1995 she suffered a stroke, and in November, she moved to Ave Marie Village where she resided until her death.
Lorraine enjoyed quilting, sewing, especially doll clothes, gardening, and spoiling her grandchildren, and later her great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. James Basilica, Jamestown.
Lorraine is survived by her four children: two daughters, Terry Lynn (Ron) Wanzek, and Virginia "Ginny" (Rodney) Gross, both rural Jamestown, and two sons, John (Lori), Rock Hill, SC and Mark (Deborah), Fargo, ND. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Liza (Fred) Wolff, Markell (Matthew) Olmstead, Kay Braaten, Joseph (Michelle) and Craig (Kari) Smith, and Rodney Gross, Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren, Brody and Henry Wolff, Amelia "Mia" Olmstead, Jordon Braaten, Taylor, Sterling, Autumn, and Vinson Smith; two brothers, Clarence (Mary Ellen), Waite Park, MN and Gerald (Ruth), St. Cloud, MN, and one sister, Clara Ann (Howard) Vreeland, Waite Park, MN, and one sister-in-law, Betty Butkowski, Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Leander, Sylvester, and Ervin; and one sister, Viola Lane.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.
Visitation: 12:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Vigil : 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND, later in the spring.
