Louise Roerick

Louise Roerick, 86, of Jamestown, ND, passed away late Monday evening, October 23, 2023 at Eventide, Jamestown.

Louise Martin was born July 22, 1937, near Lake Williams, ND in Kidder County, the daughter of Frederick and Carolina (Veil) Martin.  She was baptized and confirmed at Pettibone Lutheran Church, north of Pettibone, ND.  Louise grew up and attended grade school in Frettim Township and graduated from Pettibone High School.  She attended St. Teachers College in Valley City, ND and was a teacher in Frettim Township for two years while helping on the family farm.

Louise married Reuben Schmidt of Pettibone at Petersville Lutheran Church, rural Pettibone, on April 14, 1957.  To this union were born four children.  They lived in Valley City until 1962 when they moved to Jamestown.  Louise worked at Jamestown Hospital from 1966 to March 1968.  She worked 35 years at DePuy-Sorkness Clinic, which later became Jamestown Clinic, then Dakota Clinic from March 20, 1968 to April 11, 2003.  She married Peter Roerick on August 19, 1989.  She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

Louise is survived by her husband; daughter, Corlene & Stephen Bintzler; sons, Kenneth Schmidt and Freddie Schmidt; grandchildren, Tyson, Brent, Dustin & Melinda, Cortney, and Colton; five great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Woodword; step-children, Doug & Laurie, Bruce & Stacy, Cheri & Mark Caspers, Carol & Rodney Swenson, and Peter, Jr.; 16 step grandchildren; 22 step great-grandchildren; and family friend, Sherrie Roerick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steve Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Paula Schmidt; and siblings, Leonard Martin, Edward Martin, Alvina Schulz, Loretta Hoff, and Rebecca Bertsch; and two siblings in infancy, Esther Martin and Jacob Martin.

Funeral Service – 2:30 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2023 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Tom Eckstein officiating.

Visitation – One hour before the service at the church.

Burial – Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to St. Jude’s at stjude.org in memory of Louise.
