Lydia Unruh

Lydia (Haux) Unruh, 99, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Olathe, Kansas.

Lydia was born on October 7, 1909 to Ludwig and Katherine (Koenig) Haux at the family farm north of Goodrich, North Dakota. She attended country schools in the area and assisted with farm chores during her younger years. She married Jake Unruh on September 29, 1929. They lived in McClusky, ND until the spring of 1963. They owned and managed the Drug Store in McClusky during most of those years. In 1963, they purchased the Gamble-Skogmo department store in Parshall, ND and managed it for several years. In 1965, they moved to Minot, ND, owning and operating Arrowhead Laundry and Dry-cleaning until they retired. Lydia worked alongside her husband in these businesses. Lydia was active in her churches at these locations, serving on women's councils and teaching Sunday School. Lydia and Jake lived in the Minot area until 1996, at which time they moved to Jamestown, ND, to be closer to their son, Roger. Jake died in September 2001. Lydia resided at Central Dakota Nursing Home until June 2007, at which time she moved with her son and family to Kansas. She resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Olathe, KS, until the time of her death.

Lydia is survived by her son, Roger (Sharon) Unruh, Gardner, KS; two granddaughters, Amy (John) Comstock, Gardner, KS and Amber (DeWayne) Ables, Olathe, KS; two great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Addison; and four great-grandsons, Landon, Samuel, Jacob and Elijah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Unruh; and 11 brothers and sisters, John Haux, Henry Haux, Barbara Baumgard, Jacob Haux, Louise Gruszie, Carl Haux, Martha Deckert, Elsie Pool, Ida Schmidt, Fred Haux, and Clara Ross.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Richard Reynolds officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
