Lyla O. Schmidt, 85, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Lyla Ornetta Louisa Koetz was born August 5, 1918 in Leonard, North Dakota the daughter of Charles and Anna (Fabian) Koetz. She grew up and attended a country school in the area. She married Victor Schmidt on September 25, 1936 in Enderlin, ND.

They farmed near Enderlin, ND and moved into town in 1949 where they owned and operated the Friendly Tavern until his death on October 25, 1959. Lyla also lived in Cavalier, ND and Valley City, ND until she moved to Jamestown in 1991.

Lyla is survived by three daughters, Audrey (Roger) Brumfield, West Fargo, ND; Diane (Ron) Smedshammer, Detroit Lakes, MN and Sandra (Vince) Burns, Jamestown, one son, Dr. Dwight (Gwen) Schmidt, Jamestown, ND, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one sister, Alice Nordby, Morris, MN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Monday, July 5, 2004 at Victory Lutheran Brethern Church, Jamestown with Pastor Shawn Bowman officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Victory Luthern Brethern Church, Jamestown.

Burial: Pontiac Cemetery, Enderlin, North Dakota.
