Mabel Washburn, 91, Edgeley, ND, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND after a long battle with dementia.

Mabel Althea Phillippi was born June 12, 1918 in Monango, ND, the daughter of Hudson A. and Sarah H. (Young) Phillippi. Her father died when she was 6 months old and she and her family moved to Merricourt, ND to live with her maternal grandparents. When she was 6 years old, her mother remarried to Luther King and they moved to a farm near Merricourt, ND where she attended school. On October 20, 1939, she married Ralph Washburn at the Wesley United Methodist Church of Edgeley, ND and they settled on a farm near Edgeley, ND. After several years they moved into Edgeley where Ralph managed the Locker Plant, which they later converted into their home, and Mabel worked at the Edgeley Co-op Creamery and at the Edgeley Post Office for many years. Ralph died on April 12, 1985.

Mabel was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Edgeley Senior Citizens, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Edgeley Country Club and was a Sliver Haired Assembly Legislative Member.

Survivors include 2 children: Hudson (Mary Christine) Washburn, Santa Clara, CA; Connie (Vernon) Moyle, Reno, NV; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 siblings: Larry King, Edgeley, ND; Shirley (Ray) Podenski, Gillette, WY and a son-in-law, Arlon Rott, Nortonville, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father; step-mother; husband; a daughter, Rhodell; 2 brothers, Ross and Lee; a sister, Violet and a great-great-granddaughter, Lauren Buckeye.

Funeral - 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley, ND

Visitation - 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND

Interment - Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND at a later date
