Margaret Berge, 92, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.
Margaret was born to Bennie and Malene (Mahus) Larson on a farm near Litchville, ND on November 28, 1915. Malene and Bennie were immigrants from Norway who settled in North Dakota at the turn of the century.
Margaret graduated valedictorian from Svea Consolidated School. After high school, she attended business school in Fargo, ND and the Chicago Institute and Seminary.
On October 20, 1944 she married Lieutenant Olaf A. Berge, her childhood sweetheart, who had served in the US Air Force in England during the war. They lived and worked in Tacoma until returning to North Dakota in 1947.
Margaret and her husband moved permanently to Jamestown in 1950, where they raised their three children: Rebecca, Paul and Daniel.
Her bright and cheerful spirit and genuine love for others was an inspiration to her many friends and family. She was a much beloved mother and wife.
Margaret will be remembered for her devotion and service to God. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years. Margaret also loved music and singing. She and her sisters, Esther and Helen, regularly sang as a gospel trio on WDAY in Fargo. Later she sang for many years on the Chapel of the Air program on Jamestown radio station KSJB and also sang in her church.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Olaf, of Jamestown; her children, Rebecca Johnson of Lopez, WA, Paul Berge of Holmen, WI and Daniel Berge of Woodinville, WA; seven grandchildren, Malene Johnson, Andreas Johnson, Lars Johnson, Kara Popp, Lynsi Berge, Becca Berge and Madeleine Berge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Clara Habbestad, Petra Lee, Mildred Larson, Bernice Berge, Esther Larson, Helen Grosz and Rachael Carlson.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home In Jamestown, ND. The family will be receiving friends from friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
Burial: Elim Cemetery, rural Litchville, North Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the McCoy Ministry radio program, Jamestown, ND.
