Margaret DeKrey, 94, Medina, North Dakota, formerly of Pettibone, ND, died Monday, November 8, 2004 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Margaret was born March 16, 1910 in rural Pettibone, the daughter of Louis H. and Mary (McLeish) Dethloff. She grew up in the Pettibone area and graduated from Pettibone High School. Margaret attended Jamestown College and earned a teaching degree. She taught rural schools in the Pettibone area. On August 2, 1933 Margaret married Joe DeKrey in Pettibone. They made their home on a farm south of Pettibone. Joe was blind the last 20 years of his life and Margaret cared for him throughout those years. He enjoyed listening to her read the Bible and doing Bible study. Joe died in 1994.
Margaret was an active member in the Malcolm Congregational United Church of Christ where she was involved in Christian education, taught Sunday school and was a church musician. She was a member of the Weiser Homemakers, Medina Homemakers and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and was a gracious hostess while entertaining.
Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Joan and Raymond R. Heupel of Medina, ND; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Alvin) Reich, Medina; Lavonne (Tom) Horton, Glendale, AZ; Joseph (Faye) Heupel, Medina and Teresa (David) Kraenzel, Las Cruces, NM; 13 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Dethloff of Bismarck, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Fred, and one sister, Helen Nash.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Karl Limvere officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: 12:30 PM, Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Weiser Cemetery, Pettibone, North Dakota.
