Margaret was born July 27, 1930, in Medina, North Dakota, and was the youngest of Frederick and Magdalena Job’s eight children. Money and commodities were scarce during her formative years and she learned to work hard and be careful with money. But she was also fun-loving and liked to laugh and joke. She was outgoing and loved to talk to people. When her parents tried their hand in the restaurant business, she enjoyed working as a waitress. Later she did the same for her future husband, Albert, when he opened a restaurant with a friend. They married June 17, 1948 and were married for almost 68 years at the time of his death in 2016.
Margaret and Albert turned to farming for their livelihood in 1951. Margaret, while raising 6 children and helping with farm work, also worked part-time off and on. She helped manage a rural mail route for several years. Her real love, however, was sales. She loved the challenge and was good at it. She sold different products, and even did well selling encyclopedias. In later years, when Albert’s health required it, she took greater control and responsibility for managing their farm. She was financially savvy and could be a tough negotiator.
Margaret loved to cook. She created and compiled recipes for five cookbooks, including one whose profits were dedicated to Operation Walk - Utah. Margaret also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Her hands were seldom idle and she took pleasure in giving her creations away to friends, family, and others. Hundreds of people have been recipients of her stocking caps, scarves, afghans, prayer shawls, quilts, aprons, and other craft items.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, her husband Albert, and 1 son, Allen Hofmann (Lynette). She is survived by five children - Dr. Aaron Hofmann (Suzie), Salt Lake City, UT; Kirstie Bingham (Peter), Randall, MN; Annette Schultz (Patrick), Fargo, ND; Corinne Hofmann, Bismarck, ND; and Raymond Hofmann, Medina, ND; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and valued friends.
There will be visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, 421 1st Avenue South, Jamestown, ND. A short grave-side service will follow at the Medina Cemetery and family and friends are invited to gather at the Medina United Methodist Church for lunch afterwards.
