Margaret Oakland

Margaret Oakland, 83, Jamstown, North Dakota died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Margaret Nelson was born June 25, 1921 in Calgary, Alberta Canada the daughter of Christ and Sophie (Christensen) Nelson. She grew up in the Hampden, North Dakota area and graduated from Bisbee, ND high school in 1939. She married Adolph Oakland on December 19, 1942 in Bisbee. She got her US citizenship in 1952. They farmed in the Bisbee area until their retirement. In August 2004 they moved to Jamestown.

She was active in the Bisbee Lutheran Church and the Bisbee Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed gardening and embroidering and visiting with family and friends.

Margaret is survived by three sons, Rick (Ilse), Coos Bay, OR; Larry (Dee), Ronan, MT and Jerry (Cindy), Jamestown, one daughter Carol (Roger) Hofstad, Andover, MN, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters, Ruby Sandell and Janet Rardon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Jerry Oakland, 410 Glenwood Ave., Jamestown, ND 58401.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.
