Margaret "Peg" Schemmel (Newcomb), 74, passed away on September 12, 2024, in Ellendale, North Dakota. Born on April 10, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Peg was a beacon of creativity and kindness throughout her life.
Peg graduated from Columbia Heights High School before pursuing higher education at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, University of South Dakota, Defiance College, and the University of Minnesota. She dedicated her career to nurturing artistic and musical talents as an art and music teacher in the Twin Cities and taught community art extension classes at Bismarck State College. Married to Wade Schemmel in 1969, Peg was a devoted partner and mother to their two sons, Damond and Brice. Her family shared many cherished moments camping and hunting for agates along the North Shore of Minnesota, a place dear to her heart. Peg's love extended beyond her family as she was actively involved in her church, directing and participating in both vocal and bell choirs at the United Church of Christ.
