Marie Magdalena Middlestead, 97, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.
Marie Magdalena Presler was born November 4, 1912, on the farm near Gackle, ND, the daughter of John and Othilda (Domdie) Presler. She attended a farm school south of Gackle through the grade school level. She worked on the family farm through her early years.
On November 9, 1929 Marie married Benjamin Middlestead in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They farmed in the Kulm, Jud, and LaMoure areas until 1962. In 1963, they went to Washington and Oregon to visit. They returned to Jamestown in 1963 to live.
Marie worked for Cooks Bakery in LaMoure. After they moved to Jamestown, she went to work at Baker Boy Bakery. She worked in the bakery for several years and then took care of Dewy Moos, the son of the bakery owners, until 1974.
After several medical problems she lived at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City, Rock of Ages in Jamestown, and then into Hi-Acres Manor where she lived until her passing.
Marie is survived by one son, Elmer Middlestead, New Salem, ND; two daughters, Olga Escobedo, Lynnhaven, FL and ElDora (Elmer) Klose, Jamestown; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; six sisters, Alice Gumke, Washington, Rose Schweitzer, Jamestown, Alvina Heidinger, Edgeley, ND, Cora Moos, Gackle, ND, Delores Moser, Fargo, ND and Gertrude Kassman, Nyssa, OR; three brothers, Richard (Alvina) Presler, Oakes, ND, LeRoy (Magdelina) Presler, Gackle, ND and Walter (Adeline) Presler, Gackle, ND; and one sister-in-law, Ileene (Nels) Albin, Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1963; son, Larry; granddaughter, Connie Mortenson; grandson, LaVern Middlestead; son-in-law, Greg Escobedo; great-grandson, Randy Klose, Jr.; two brothers; six sisters; and seven brothers-in-law.
