Marilyn Duchscherer

February 14, 1944 — January 31, 2025

Jamestown, North Dakota

Marilyn Duchscherer, faithful servant, joyfully joined her Lord and Savior on January 31, 2025, at the age of 80 years old, surrounded by her loving family.

Marilyn Dorene Duchscherer was born to Lydia and Edward Sukut on February 14, 1944, in Fredonia, ND.  She grew up and attended school in Fredonia.  After graduation Marilyn attended UND in Grand Forks, ND.  She worked at ND Farmers Union in Jamestown and the Stutsman County Court House in the Treasurer’s department.

Marilyn met a handsome young beau, Robert (Bob) Duchscherer, who stole her heart.  They were married on June 20, 1964, in Jamestown ND where they settled and made themselves a loving and faith filled home. They shared a life full of love for 57 wonderful years until Bob went to his heavenly home on June 26, 2021.  Together they raised three children (Tammy, Todd, and Troy) with family and their faith being at the center of it all.  They instilled the importance of faith in each of their children.  It was as important to them as the breath of life itself.  Marilyn loved to travel with Bob and her beautiful children.  You could find them most weekends in the summer camping somewhere in ND and SD including many trips to Medora and the Black Hills of SD.  Big summer vacations were also a favorite of Marilyn’s.  She loved taking her children to see our beautiful country and would carefully plan out all of the details, not to miss any sight-seeing opportunities or adventures on these trips.

Marilyn had a heart full of warmth and care, love and compassion for everyone.  She was selfless and always put the needs of others before her own.  She lived for her family and was so proud of her 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren with one more being added in July.  She spent years creating a home that grandkids loved to visit.  So many special memories were made at grandma’s house.  The kids will forever cherish the precious sleepovers and time spent there.  Marilyn enjoyed and looked forward to these moments just as much as the children.  She had such a joyful, fun, kid-at-heart spirit.  Some of the many fond memories included dancing in the rain, hot fudge sundae night, and popcorn night.  Coffee was a staple at grandma’s house and all the kids looked forward to getting this grown-up drink and sharing it with grandma, with a treat of course.

She also loved time spent at the racetrack with Bob, watching her sons and grandson take part in dirt track racing.  Every Saturday night in the summer she and Bob could be found in the fan section cheering on the race team.  After Bob passed, she spent every Saturday in the pits with the race team and her whole family there to support them.  She also never missed a grandchild, or great-grandchild’s birthday party, sporting event, music program or dance recital.

Her love for cooking and baking brought joy to her family.  She was notorious at family gatherings for making everyone’s favorites.  Some must haves included the wonderful German food and her homemade fudge.  Her rhubarb cakes were a family favorite, and grandkids couldn’t wait until their birthdays when they knew without a doubt that Grandma would be bringing this special cake for them.  Marilyn had a deep and abiding faith.  Not a day went by that she didn’t spend time in prayer for her whole family and devotions to God.  She could be found reading her Bible and writing scriptures down or working in her kitchen and listening to worship music.  If anyone of her beloved family members had a problem, she always had the scriptures they needed without even looking them up.   She also had a love of gardening and the outdoors.  Spring, summer, and fall, you would always find her out in her yard or garden tending to her precious plants.

Marilyn’s immense love extended beyond her immediate family.  She deeply loved her sister, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.

Marilyn is survived by her three children, Tammy (Allen) Falk, Todd (Renae) Duchscherer, Troy (Deidra) Duchscherer; grandchildren, Robert (Lesley) Falk, Christopher Falk, Brittany (Erin) Schmidt, Michelle (Dylan) Carr, Marissa (Javan) Arroyo, Mariah Duchscherer, Matthew Duchscherer (Lauryn Halvorson); great-grandchildren, Quin, Marcus, Grace, Caleb, Lydia, Jamisen, Josie, Ella, James, Jonathan, Jacqueline, Joshua, Caylor, Bensen, Kaiser, Aveah, Amari, and Aliyas; sister, Florence Goehner and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death and embraced in heaven by her adoring husband, Bob, her parents, Lydia and Edward Sukut, grandson Trevor Duchscherer, brother-in-law Marvin Goehner and brother-in-law Michael Duchscherer.
