Marilyn Koehn, 84, Jamestown, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.
Marilyn Musburger was born May 15, 1925 in Jamestown and resided in Buchanan for 18 years. After graduating from Jamestown High School in 1942 she attended classes at Jamestown College and the University of North Dakota (1942-1944) before transferring and graduating from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition in 1946. While in Grand Forks, Marilyn was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and a charter member of UND?s chapter of Omicron NU (national honorary Home Economics sorority). She interned in Dietetics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 1947 and was subsequently employed at New Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Marilyn returned to Jamestown to care for her father, Lloyd E. Musburger and she was employed by the First James River National Bank as a bookkeeper. Marilyn and Arvel Koehn were married November 29, 1952 in Jamestown, N.D. Marilyn taught nutrition for Jamestown College for 9 years and for 1 year at the North Dakota State Hospital in the satellite program of the Wahpeton State School Licensed Practical Nurse program. As a licensed registered dietician, she consulted at the Anne Carlsen School, Central Dakota Nursing Home, Hi-Acres Manor, the Senior Citizen Center and the Jamestown Clinic. As a bookkeeper Marilyn was also employed by Stutsman County State Bank and Barkers women?s apparel store.
Marilyn was active in civic, cultural and religious organizations. She served as president of the United Presbyterian Women?s Association, as an elder in the United Presbyterian Church and for six years as secretary for the Presbytery of Lakes and Prairies. Marilyn?s mother, Carro Buchanan Musburger was a member and her aunt, Stella Buchanan Case, a charter member of Chapter K P.E.O ? an organization where Marilyn served as president and was honored as a 50-year member. She was a member of Epsilon Alpha Sigma. Marilyn was a member of Wednesday Club, a treasurer for the Women?s Club rooms for 25 years and took reservations for the clubroom?s use for many years. Marilyn was a member of the Jamestown-Valley City Dietetic Association, served as president of the Republican Women of the Jamestown Area, and worked as a volunteer for Civic Music and the Jamestown Hospital.
Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with her friends in the Jamestown area. Many lively and happy times were spent at coffee hours, bridge clubs and dinner parties. In addition Marilyn?s hobbies included refinishing furniture, rug hooking and flower gardening.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Arvel Koehn and 3 children: Kevin Douglas (Colleen Cebula) of Jamestown, Carro Lynel (Larren Boyd) of Golden Valley, Minnesota and Steven Arvel (Terry Hetherington) of Jamestown. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren ? Andrew, Brian, Crystal, Jill, and Phillip. She was preceded in death by her parents: Carro Buchanan Musburger, Lloyd Musburger, DDS and Frena Wegenke Musburger, RN as well as a brother, Stanley.
A private memorial service with the family and Pastor Dave Thompson, United Presbyterian Church will be held at the Buchanan Cemetery. Memorials at the choice and discretion of the giver.
