Marion Barnick

Marion Barnick, 93, Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at her home in Jamestown.

Marion Alma Hickey was born May 10, 1916 on the family farm west of Nortonville, ND, the daughter of James William and Sina Amanda (Erie) Hickey.

She was raised on the family farm and attended the Mikkelson Township School for 6 years, and then attended school in Nortonville, graduating from Nortonville High School. In 1934, she attended Valley City State College and, the following year, began teaching in a rural school 12 miles from home. In 1936, she married Paul Barnick and they farmed west of Nortonville until his death in 1945. Marion continued her education during the summers in Ellendale, ND and at Aberdeen State College and received a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education.

Marion was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught both child and adult Sunday School, the First United Methodist Women and a church circle.

Survivors include 6 children: Robert (Mona) Barnick, Pacific Grove, CA; Kenneth "Sam" (Shirley) Barnick, Jamestown, ND; Joyce (John) Komar, Phoenix, AZ; Janet (Tom) Minogue, Alabaster, AL; Roy Barnick, Jamestown, ND; Phyllis (Jim) Ingle, Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a sister, Pearl (Al) Anderson, Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, James; an infant brother and an infant son, Jimmy.

Memorial Service - 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation - no visitation is scheduled

Interment - Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville, ND
