Marshall J. (Chap) Darkenwald, 89, Wimbledon, North Dakota died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, North Dakota.

Chap Darkenwald was born on April 11, 1915 in Uxbridge Township, Barnes County, North Dakota the son of George O. and Mary (Altringer) Darkenwald. He graduated from Uxbridge High School. He lived and farmed all his life in Uxbridge Township. Chap married Helen Borgeson March 30, 1940 in Wimbledon.

He served on the Uxbridge School and St. Boniface Church Boards. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Club of Valley City.

Chap is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, James of Bloomington, MN; two daughters, Mary Lou (Tom) Swenson, Deerwood, MN and Patricia (Gerald) Meier, Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and eight sisters.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon, ND with Father Steven Meyer officiating.

Prayer Vigil: 8:00 PM, Friday, June 4, 2004 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.

Burial: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Wimbledon, North Dakota.
