Marvin Bietz

August 19, 1930 — January 27, 2017

Marvin Bietz went peacefully to meet the Lord on January 27, 2017, at the Ave Maria Nursing Home in Jamestown, ND.
Marvin was the youngest son born to Ted and Katie Bietz at their farm in Woodworth, ND. At the age of seven his family moved to a farm near Wimbledon, ND and moved again to the farm located five miles northeast of Jamestown, ND which was his home until entering the nursing home in 2015.
He graduated from Jamestown High School and remained on the farm until 1952 when he left to serve in the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged two years later and returned to the family farm.
Marvin married the love of his life, Alice Stene, from Brantford, ND, in 1955 and they built a new home on the family farm. While working with his dad, he started a successful dairy operation. He was selected as the Outstanding Young Farmer in Stutsman County in 1958. After 19 years, the dairy cattle were sold and the pastures were converted to additional farmland. Following a successful farming career, he retired in 1994.
Marvin was well known in the community, serving as a 4-H Leader, member of Jamestown School Board, member of the Jamestown Kiwanis, President of the North Dakota American Dairy Association, President and Board member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the Advisory Committee to International Agricultural Training Program at the University of Minnesota. Marvin enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, golfing, bowling, gardening, canning and cooking. He was kind to all people he met and had a contagious sense of humor while enjoying life to the fullest.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice; two sons, Jeff (Kathy) and Steve (Kathryn); one daughter, Chris (Melissa); five grandchildren, Jessica Allen, Lindsey Stoelting, Gretchen Flatz, Katie Johnson and Jack Bietz; and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walter Bietz, Roy Bietz and one grandchild, Dustin Bietz.
