Marvin B. Haugen

Marvin B. Haugen, 82, Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2008.

Marvin was born March 13, 1926 in Cleveland, ND, the son of Ben and Clara (Anderson) Haugen. He grew up in and attended and graduated from Cleveland School in 1944. Marvin started doing carpentry work at an early age with his father and later forming Haugen Construction. He married Catherine Zimmerman, who passed away after a brief illness. In 1953 he married Darcy Medenwald.

Marvin started and owned Haugen Construction. He built many homes, barns and other major buildings, including the Cleveland Methodist Church, Medina Clinic, and the Medina Cheese Factory.

In 1967 the family moved to Jamestown where he continued carpentry. In his later years he did remodeling and odd jobs.

Marvin enjoyed going to coffee, telling jokes (mostly Norwegian), visiting with his neighbors, was a faithful listener of Chapel of the Air, The McCoy Ministries. Most of all, he enjoyed hearing from his children and grandchildren and being with his family.

Marvin is survived by four sons, Ronald (Brenda), Farmington, CT, Ricky (Annette), Jamestown, Corey (Patti), Fargo, ND and Kelly (Andrea), Bismarck, ND; two daughters, Michelle Dockter (Doug Schlager), Jamestown and Deb (Ed) Attleson, Spiritwood, ND; two brothers, George Haugen, Redlands, CA and Dennis Haugen, Jamestown; sister-in-law, Rosie Haugen, Cleveland, ND; 13 grandchildren; Jeremy Haugen, Lakeview, MN, Tanya (Jonah) Neuharth, Oakes, ND, Chad (Amy) Dockter, New Hope, MN, Melissa (Dean) Gilbertson, Jamestown, Chris (Erin) Dockter, Fargo, ND, Tyler Attleson, Spiritwood, ND, Jason (Becky) Haugen, Rapid City, SD, Brandon Haugen, Jamestown, Amber and Andrew Haugen, Fargo, ND, Kalin Haugen, Fargo, ND and Josh and Brenna Haugen, Bismarck, ND; 9 great-grandchildren, Sierra, Cameron and Taydem Gilbertson, Damon and Ashtyn Haugen, Avery Haugen, Cole and Alexandra Haugen and Cayden Neuharth; and his good neighbors and friends at the Gardenette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; two brothers, Harold ""Dwayne"" and Maurice; and a sister, Violet.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Friday, May 9, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Kenrad Pederson officiating.

Visitation: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
