Marvin L. Tokach, 86, Jamestown passed away Sunday, July 3 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home.
Born March 7, 1930 in Mandan, ND to Steven and Helen Tokach; was raised in St. Anthony; and graduated from Mandan High School. He then attended NDSU where he received a degree in pharmacy after which he began work with White Drug in Jamestown, ND where he spent most of his adult life. During his career was awarded the Bowl of Hygeia, an honor given to pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities.
He married Arlyss Domek on July 14, 1953 at St. James Church in Jamestown, ND. They had three children Craig (Greenville, WI), Lynette (Cedar Rapids, IA), and Stacey (Minneapolis, MN). Marvin was active in service clubs including Rotary of which he was a lifelong member and a past president. He was fundamental in establishing Camp Rokiwan and encouraged other community members to become invested in the project as well. Because of his years of dedication to building the community he received Jamestown's Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award in 2007. Marvin was an active board member at Central Dakota Village/Ave Maria Village for over 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, was a lifelong church member, and in his younger years an active outdoorsmen.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife, and brother David Tokach of South Dakota. He is survived by his three children; his grandchildren Elizabeth and Sydney Tokach (Madison, WI); Heather Thomas (Minneapolis, MN), Shannon Martin (Bismarck, ND), and Erin Martin (Bismarck, ND); and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to The Anne Carlsen Center for Children in Jamestown, ND.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, at Good Shepherd Chapel at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home in Jamestown. A celebration of his life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at the nursing home. Following the ceremony burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Jamestown, ND after which there will be a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus.
