Mary Rita "Mary" Gainsforth, born on May 18, 1941, at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, ND, passed away on February 17, 2025, at SMP Health-Ave Maria Nursing Home. She was the daughter of Ralph and Cora (Christopherson) Kortendick of Pingree, ND.
Mary graduated from Pingree High School and went on to further her education at the Matchie Business College. On December 28, 1962, she married Dennis Gainsforth at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pingree, ND. Together, they built a life filled with family and community involvement.
Along with raising five children, she dedicated many years to her career, working at the ASCS Office for five years, the American Heart Association for five years, Jamestown Hospital for 17 years, and Joy's Hallmark for another 17 years. Beyond her professional life, Mary was an active member of several organizations, including the Red Hat Society, Roaming Buffalos' Camping Club, Jaycees, Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, Tabernacle Society of St. James Basilica, St. John's Circle, and the Prayer Warriors; Mary’s Catholic faith was a major facet in her life.
Mary took great pride in decorating her home for each season of the year and loved entertaining people in her home. There seemed to be a linen tablecloth, piece of china or decoration for every occasion! Mary made sure to have the kids’ favorite food on hand for their visits. She also enjoyed having her hair and nails done on a regular basis.
Mary is survived by her husband, children: Jeff (Val), Scott, Nanci (Michele Kramlich), Monte, and Gina (Nate) Williams; her grandchildren: Justin (Marie) Gainsforth, Jackie (Hal) Russell, Dana (Anna) Gainsforth, Riley Gainsforth, Reece Gainsforth, Kylee Williams, and Alexis Williams; as well as eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Norene (Steve) Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; her sister and brother-in-law Raymond and Carol Kautzman; her grandson Tyler Max Gainsforth; and her niece Heather Fulton Curtis.
The family wishes to thank the staff at SMP Health-Ave Maria for the exceptional care they provided to Mary these past few years.
Mary’s legacy of kindness and dedication to family, in addition to her smile, will be cherished by all who knew her.
