Mary Marks

Mary Marks, 89, Jamestown, ND, formerly of Ypsilanti, ND, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Mary Docktor was born March 20, 1923 on the homestead of her Grandpa Haskel in Winfield Township, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Haskel) Docktor. She grew up in the Ypsilanti area and attended country schools. Mary attended high school at Hansboro and Minot, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1941. After high school graduation she moved to California and worked in a plane factory. Mary moved back to North Dakota and taught in Winfield and Corwin Township School. On November 10, 1947 Mary married Roland Marks. They settled on the farm and she helped run the farm by driving tractor, combining and wherever she was needed. They spent winters in Texas and Arizona. Roland passed away in 1998. She lived at her rural Ypsilanti home until 2006 when she became a resident of Ave Maria Nursing Home.

Mary was a member of Ypsilanti Lutheran Church until it closed, Montpelier Lutheran Church, Women's Circle at the church, Winfield Homemakers and Winfield Whist Club.

She enjoyed traveling, playing Canasta, crossword puzzles, tending to her garden and canning, crocheting and quilting.

Mary is survived by two sons, Dale (Ann) Marks and Gary (Linda) Marks, both of Ypsilanti, ND; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Ester) Docktor, Surprise, AZ; and three sisters, Margaret (Dean) Everett, Post Falls, ID, Joan Maridian, Rapid City, SD and Jane Roberts, St. Paul, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers and one sister.
