Melba Seekins

Melba Seekins, 83, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.

Melba Eleanor Jensen was born September 27, 1921 in Aneta, North Dakota the daughter of Selmer ""Jens"" and Ellen Marie (Hanson) Jensen. She grew up and attended school in Aneta and graduated from Aneta High School in 1939. Melba attended Jamestown College from 1939 to 1941. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in Long Beach, California from 1941-1945. On December 29, 1945 Melba married George DeWitt Seekins in Long Beach. They returned to Jamestown and opened Seekins Booterie where Melba was the bookkeeper, secretary and treasurer. George died on May 20, 2001.

Melba was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, the church choir for 28 years, the United Methodist Women, PEO, Friendship Circle, Jimmie Janes, and the Jamestown Country Club for 58 years. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs.

Melba is survived by her three daughters, Lesley Ellen (Mike) Nystrom, Shoreview, MN; Marcia Alice (Phil) Ringstrom, Sioux Falls, SD and Judy Ann (Jack) Arnold, Ashburn, VA, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two sisters, Carol (John) Johnson, Banning, CA and Alfa Selig, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Vernon and Donald Jensen and one sister, Helen Graff.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Pastor Dick Boyd officiating.

No visitation is scheduled.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
