Melita Fossum

Melita Fossum, 92, Jamestown, North Dakota died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown, North Dakota.

Melita A. Merkel was born March 24, 1916, the daughter of Christof and Magdelena (Wolff) Merkel, in Lamoure, ND. She was raised and attended school at Jamestown, ND. After completing school she worked in Jamestown at a local creamery.

On June 4, 1945, Melita married Harry Fossum in Jamestown, ND. She spent those years supporting and working beside her husband. She lived and raised the family on her husband?s family homestead near Litchville, ND. Once her children were grown she worked in the dietary department in a college in Minneapolis, Minn. When she retired she lived with family.

She had a strong faith in God. She enjoyed reading, sewing and spending time with family.

Melita is survived by a daughter, LaVonne (Charles) Gerlach, Jamestown, ND; a son, Gregory Fossum, Columbia Hts, MN; 12 grandchildren, Shawn Gerlach, Shannon Gerlach, Chris Gerlach, Craig Gerlach, Tonya Mueller, Troy Gerlach, Darin Gerlach, Dana Gerlach, Amber Gerlach, Andy Fossum, Stacy Fossum, Nathan Fossum; and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two sisters.

Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.

Visitation: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Memory Gardens, Valley City, North Dakota
